Funny that I have been postulating for quite a few years that our SOL is a variable star and is the main culprit behind of not only some extinction type of events but also the Ice ages and the past records of major climate changes for which some seem to have happened very quickly.
So now I feel vindicated to some degree, here is the link,

Very interesting article. I could agree that the sun has been responsible for major events such as extinction and ice ages in the past, but I still need to hold onto the impact theory that killed off the dinosaurs, and large objects hitting the earth could have started ice ages as well.

I totally agree with you it's probably a combination of all sorts of things, I wouldn't even rule out a GRB in the past.

BTW Thanks for your message I resolved the problem, In Vista I just had to unclick the compatibility view option, all is well now!
