To Balance or not so balanced Mount

HI Folks,
I am just curious, how many members here, have an EQ mount, and strive to achieve the proper balance in RA and DEC?

Personnally. I prefer to balance, just to avoid undue stress on my drive motors, others leave the RA a little heavy for a good gear mesh.
Some dont even know that they should.

Ok Maybe this should be a Poll?
LOL,

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I have my Meade LX200GPS mounted on a Mitty Evolution Wedge. I didn't start really paying attention to balance until I started into astrophotography. I now make sure the telescope stays well balanced in equatorial mode where ever it happens to be pointing. Better tracking, less wear and tear on the motors and gears, are all benefits of a well balanced telescope. Balancing a telescope is a must for long exposure astrophotography.
