Telescopes If your topic has to do with telescopes, post it here. Some common types of telescopes are Newtonian Reflectors, Refractors, and Catadioptrics.

New Telescope

Hi - I just bought my second telescope (the first one probably shouldn't count) - it was more of a toy 20 years ago. The new one I bought is the "Orion Spaceprobe 130 EQ". I still consider myself a beginner and I took a stab in the dark and bought it through Amazon. Unfortunately it's still in the middle of a somewhat cold winter in Detroit and I'm not planning to use it until the spring - if anyone has experiance with this scope I'd like to hear about it - it's not too late to take it back.

Hi,

While I have no direct experience with that model of scope I have owned telescopes that are similar. I would say that if you can do it I would look at getting a 6" or 8" dobsonian such as an Orion XT6 or something of similar design. Here is a link to a few choices http://www.telescope.com/jump.jsp?it...EGORY&itemID=9. So long as the size of the scope remains manageable and doesn't become a burden to take outside for for observing, the bigger the aperture the better.
