Locating Objects in the sky

Hi everybody
I am an ultimate novice in astronomy and thus you will bear with my very basic questions (might be technically wrong, also).
I am from Islamabad, Pakistan, with the following geographical location:

73deg 06min East & 33deg 37min North

My query is that how can I locate the MARS, the JUPITER planet and the Polestar, in the sky. In which direction, at what approx. angles and at what time.
I am desparate to know it. If anybody can help me, please.

Well, that's how you find polar star in the sky. Don't know about the planets though, it depends on time and place. There should be some internet sites that provide such information though.

Hi Abbasi,

Welcome to Extreme Astronomy,

If you go to here http://www.extremeastronomy.com/links/showlink.php?l=14 it will help you make an overhead view of the night time sky at your location. You could also try downloading a very good free planetarium program called Cartes Du Ciel which is located here http://www.extremeastronomy.com/links/showlink.php?l=15. I would suggest you start with the first link as the second one will require a larger learning curve. I hope this helps.

Hi Abassi welcome.

Here is another link where you can make an overhead view of the sky at your location. Its really easy, all you do is enter the latitude and longitude of your observing site in the box that is at the bottom of the page. If you don't know your latitude or longitude you can specify them by selecting a nearby city.
