Fine Tuning On Coronado PST

I have one concern about my PST. When using the tuning ring on the PST I find myself with the ring turned almost all the way to the right before the view is optimized when looking at prominences. When it does hit its limit on the right, prominences are still in view and in some cases new prominences are still coming into view. I can understand that some prominences are on a slightly different wave length of light, but why is there not more tuning room to work with on the right. It makes me feel that if I had just a bit more room to detune on the right it would help me when trying to optimize the view when turning the ring back to the left. Why isn't the tuning optimized when the ring is more in the middle of its center of travel than all the way to the right?

I don't really understand what the tuning ring does...
Does it matter which way the filter is clocked? (Kind of like a polarizing filter, where you can adjust how much gets through?)

The tuning ring makes minute spectral adjustment of the etalon filter on the Coronado PST. You can turn the ring at total of about 130 degrees. I find when using the PST, the prominences have their best view when the tuning ring is tuned almost all the way to the right.
