Very cool! I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work. I'm so disappointed in not even being able to locate where the sun even was all day long. So, when's the next transit? Will it be Mercury or Venus? I'll bet Venus would be a nice sight!

HI Stuart,
I also missed the transit, I was supposed to go to the local Planetarium to help out, they were having a big day and were planning to show Telescopic Views of the Transit, but I got sick and I missed the hole event.
I cant wait to see your results.
May I ask what you are using for Imaging Equipment?
Dennis

I posted in this thread with my movie and pictures.

I used my Canon Digital Rebel 350D mounted onto a clock drive with a 1000 mm lens and a solar filter.

To all

Hello, I am new here but not necessarily new to astronomy. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Mark Seibold. I performed a search on my name just to see what happened with the chat about my hand drawn Mercury transit sketch that Mr. Bonnell posted to APOD on Nov 17th. (Hence, it was also in Spaceweather.com Nov 7~8) and they are using my solar abstract pastel (from earlier in their site 10/14) for an art contest. The search brought up this "Extreme Astronomy" site with my name [somewhere?] but I cannot find the comments. Well I'll just post the images again *PS: I can tell you that observing the Mercury transit live with medium to high power magnification and seeing the planet hovering in the photosphere gives this experience a 3-D effect not to be forgotten- No photograph or text talk can do that - Thanks for any input, -

***Keep looking up and ladies and gentlemen; start pushing your pencils, pastel chalks and paint brushes! Best warm and humble regards
-Mark Seibold

I just thought I'd add some color for your forum here - I also put up some other related solar pastels to the 'general astronomy' forum here - These were all featured in Spaceweather.com and Astro Pic of the Day recently- Prints are available if desired- you may email the artist- Enjoy! -M
