Mounts A mount is a very important part of a telescope setup. The type of mount you use can depend on whether you observe visually or use your telescope for Astrophotography.

Sphinx D power Connector

New to the forum-- I recently bought a Sphinx D for my Televue NP101is and was dismayed to see what looked like a proprietary power connector. I asked Vixen about it and their Customer service guy told me it was just a Radio Shack "N" connector in their adapt-a-plug series. I went to Radio Shack and it is not an "N".... it is the "D" connector.

By using this plug setup you can make ends for various power supplies without having to pay premium prices to Vixen for their 12v cigarette plug or their AC adapter-- you can use a cheaper generic supply and solder the adapt a plug ends on it.

Hi elektron,
welcome to the forum!
I'm curious as to the performance of your Sphinx Mount, have you tried imaging with the mount?
I was wondering just how good the tracking and pointing software is and if it has PEC (periodic error correction).
Your the only person I have met so far that has the Sphinx mount.

Is it the, Vixen Sphinx SXW Mount MT-SX-2502?

Dennis

Sphinx D mount/HAL 130 tripod

The mount has PEC and seems very easy to use. The tracking I've done so far has been visual- I just bought the adapters to hook my DSLR up to the scope and hope to take pictures over next few weeks. I like the Starbook which is very easy to read and program. The mount itself seems well built. It's rated for 50 lbs weight but I probably wouldn't exceed 30lbs unless it was permanently mounted. Polar allignment was somewhat arcane to me- I had to read the instructions several times before I understood the markings on their dial for the polar scope. That portion of manual could have been a little better written.

I will post more info as I gain some experience with it...

forgot model number

The model number is SXD not SXW---- OPT number VX-2503HAL130. This is the heavier Sphinx model.
