I reworked the shot with Photo studio 5.0 and a clone tool to fix the blue halos and to drop out some of the red.

The APO lens will sure reduce the chromatic aberation problems. I use a Skywatcher 80mm ED refractor which has next to no color and are a great bargain at their price point. Its only my opinion but I normally prefer keeping the contrast down even if it sacrifices fainter detail. To prevent from having to crank up the contrast so high to try and bring out detail, its worth trying to get more signal aka longer exposures to capture the fainter parts of nebula and galaxies.
