Many thanks Dennis for your reply,

At least it's now clear to me. I feel a bit daft now. Had not heard of the maridian line before so typed in "maridian line" on web and it came up with Greenwich Prime maridian line in London. Anyway now i know.

Thanks Dave.

Hi Dave,

You're very welcome!
It's a common mistake, I hope you understand the process clearly now.

When you aim your scope at the celestial EQ ( 0 degrees) and, at your meridian, It shows you how far your off in azimuth from the celestial North pole.

When you aim at the eastern or western horizon and as close as possible to the Horizon and the celestial EQ, it now shows you how far off you are in declination of the celestial north pole. If you were to pick a drift star that is not within the parameters I gave you, any errors will not show up quickly, and the accuracy of your adjustments will be way off.

Sometimes I find myself having to exchange drift stars for stars that are closer to the parameters for the drift aligning process, especially if I take too long making adjustments.

Dennis
