Astronomy Magazine and S&T

Hi People!
I have had a subscription to Astronomy now for quite a few years, and they seem to get more opinionated and biased lately, maybe they are trying too hard to compete with S&T.
I was a little dismayed by Bob Bermans opinions that we should all stop pretending to like open clusters!
I am kind of dissapointed in the direction the magazine has taken lately.
although they still have a few good articles in each Issue, there seem to be way too many advertisements.
does anyone here feel the same way I do?
Dennis

Yep. And that's part of the reason why I cancelled my subscription last year, after getting it for 8 straight years.

My subscription is due to expire next month. I'm really thinking about letting it expire.

The excessive advertisements bother me too. I know they have to have ads in there to pay their salaries - but get real. With few exceptions every other page is an advertisement. Yes, EVERY OTHER PAGE!! It's like the Editors (not sure who is actually responsible for ad placement) said "OK, odd pages are ads, even pages will be articles."

Pretty soon ads will start showing up on the cover...

I will miss having access to the subscribers only sections of their website though.

This is why I don't subscribe to magazines. I just go to the library and have my librarian order them for me.

I think Its definetly time for another, better orientated Magazine, more for Our hobby than just ads!
I will still keep my Subscription though!
I like to keep updated on some of the few articles that are interesting to me, that is, after sorting thru all of those adds that make me want to spend more money!

I just got Surveyed By Astronomy magazine, and boy did I let them have it! I spoke the truth, not that it will matter anyway!
I would like to see more Science Fact, less Opinions, a better section of Photos from average people with Average Equipment, and way less Advertisements.

What astronomy magazine(s) do you subscribe?: SkyNews

How long have you subscribed?: 3 years

What do like about the magazine(s) you are subscribed?: I like the fact its published in Canada and the content is easy reading and interesting. They have also had some excellent pull-out posters in the past.

What don't you like about the magazine(s) you are subscribed?: Could do with more content, but to be fair the subscriber base and advertising revenue would have to support it.

Are you planning to renew: Yes
If no, why not?[/quote]

HI Darryl!
I messed up on my vote with a bad mouse slip!
I do have a Subscription to Astronomy Magazine!
although I am not very happy with them, I have read some S&T issues there doesnt seem to be much of a difference between the two.
I like the updated Science news or discoveries
I dont like some of the opinionated articles and all the adds, but You're right they have to make Money somehow
Dennis

Good for you, Dennis! If enough people get their opinions across, perhaps the magazine will change for the better. Have to hope more folks are outspoken like you.
