Three Comets In Perseus

Hi Folks,

March brings us three comets visible in small amateur instruments in the same part of the sky.

Giant comet 17P Holmes, comet 46P/Wirtanenn and, recently discovered 2008 C1(Chen-Gao) will lie within a 20 degree circle by mid-month.

On March 15, 17P and 46P will pass within 7 degrees of one another.

On March27/28, 2008 C1 (Chen-Gao) will pass within 1.2 degrees of 17P, with 46P still less than 8 degrees away.

See http://www.cometchasing.skyhound.com/index.html for Finder charts,
Enjoy!

Let's hope someone with some real wide-field imaging capabilities can get a shot.

I would have to make a mosaic with my setup. I dont know of anyone in my local club that can span 8 degrees with one image.

Dennis
