Great shot! I'm still waiting for a good opportunity to get some lightning shots ... been waiting a few years, though.

Great shot indeed! I never get tired of looking a lightning. Ever since I was a kid I've been drawn to it. Something about the awsome power of mother nature. My mother used to be horrified when I'd go outside during an electrical storm - I just couldn't resist it, being surrounded by the flashes and feeling the thunder reverberate through me. I even wrote a poem about lightning storms when I was in highschool. I'm a bit more careful these days about going outside during a storm now, but it still thrills and chills me to this day. Here's a good site that has some animations and slow-mo clips explaining how lightning strikes. I refer to it whenever my friends tell me that they heard that lightning actually strikes upwards. I wish those weathermen would give folks the "whole" story about the usually unnoticed or "invisible" stepped leader that comes down from the cloud to meet a positive leader about 300 feet off the ground rising to meet it, and then the visible flash that does travel back upwards and the return strokes and all. Oh, well I guess it's just asking too much for weathermen to spread the truth, eh? http://www.wvlightning.com/cgdesc.shtml
