Possible Variable Star Discovery

HI Folks,
I was going thru some of my photos of M-51,and after careful study I found a star on my image that does not appear in the reference Image from DSS, I went back into all of the subs that I took for m-51 just to make sure that I didnt have a hot pixel or a gamma ray strike.
The DSS Image is of better quality and resolution so it should have picked up the new star.
here are both images with my image encircling the suspect in red.
you will have to zoom in on both images to see what I'm talking about

Any ideas or opinions?

Hi Dennis,

I just tried to look for some of my M51 images and it appears I haven't processed them yet, so I couldn't compare them with your shots to see if I could see anything. I'll see what I can dig up later today if I get the chance.

do u have any other pics of m51 from past 1 month or so check if u can sopt something there ill check on my side see if i can spot something if so man maybe they gona name it after u :P

Hi Ozz!
thanks bud, I cant seem to find this star on any charts or previous DSS images.
I took these subs last fall And I used 3 different sub exposures to get the fiinal combined result over a two day period.
I have taken the liberty to zoom both images here for a better look.
Im pretty sure I have ruled out a hot pixel.
please take a look at the new zoomed images.

I found another Image from the DSS site it shows a star in a different Position angle.

Hi Guys!
looks like the mystery is solved according to one of the members of another astronomy website,I apparently have discovered a Variable that does not show up on any Images except for a Red DSS image made back in the 50's.
it is apparently so red that it does not show up on any of the the blue plates taken so far, I have been instructed to submit my discovery to AAVSO but Im a little confused as to how to explain this to them, they have a specific format that sort of limits me in explaining what i have discovered. here is a quote from another observer with alot more expierience than I have on such matters, my thanks goes to Bill Wier and Turbo-1 for helping me to figure out just what I discovered

Your star does not show up in any of the 2003 SDSS images, not in any of the 1994 DSS images. It DOES show up in the 1956 dss1r image, but not the dss1b image shot the same night. The verdict is that you have found a variable star AND the star is so red that even at maximum, it does not show up in the blue band of the DSS, just the red. Unfortunately, there was no ir band image shot in 1956 - I suspect that it might have been quite luminous in ir.
