Of course, knowing that petrol is organic matterial, even Moon can't save us from associated problems, unless we find some other means of energy production. There are talks that there might be deposits of fusionable hydrogen there. I don't know, I'm not sure about it, but at least some metals and alike could be mined there for sure.
There's only one "but". If we want to exploit Lunar minerals, we really have to cut the transportation cost several times from modern sizes, otherwise they will be simply too expensive. Of course, no one asks about the price when you don't have any other resources... But still.
On the other hand, one thing about that mining disturbs me a lot. Officially, moon is no ones... Do you think it will remain that way after valuable minerals will be found? I don't think so...
I can even imagine our great great great grandchildren staring at the moon: "There's US territory, that mare belongs to EU, that huge area on the right is Russian... Yeah, that nuclear junkyard below is Earth, why do you ask? Oh, no, no one lives there, silly. That's are harsh place to be."
OK OK, I'm overexaggerating, but still, I have thoughts like that.
