Very cool, Dennis! I'm proud to say that I have an autographed copy of Brian Greene's book The Fabric Of The Cosmos. He also speaks of time travel in that book and concurs on the principle that time travel to the past would be limited to traveling back only to the time when a time machine or time traveling method first existed.

The head spinning, for me, starts with wondering what happens when the machine is powered up and (similarly to what Buldric mentions) it spits out some message from Mallet in the future to himself in the past? Could Mallet then resolve not to send that message when the "time" comes, thus somehow erasing the note that appeared. Or would he somehow be compelled to send it in the future? Or would that note necessarily be from one of the multiverses where Mallet did indeed choose to send it back. This would a split from the universe where Mallet resolved not to send it.

So,.... do we have free will, or not? If so, can we change the future based on knowledge from the future which would change the knowledge in the future which would change our knowledge in the past, etc., etc.

And, if a note to Mallet in the past came through from Mallet in the future, does that imply that past, present and future all exist.... period. This would be in line with many scientists theories that all of spacetime exists and that all of us are simply like the actors in a movie - the movie exists in it's entirety, but the actors (as captured by the movie frames) only experience one movie frame at a time and only happen to remember the past and not the future because of the arrow of time.

Back To The Future! Gaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
