Personally. I prefer to balance, just to avoid undue stress on my drive motors, others leave the RA a little heavy for a good gear mesh.
Some don't even know that they should.

Hi Dennis,
I have my Meade LX200GPS mounted on a Mitty Evolution Wedge. I didn't start really paying attention to balance until I started into astrophotography. I now make sure the telescope stays well balanced in equatorial mode where ever it happens to be pointing. Better tracking, less wear and tear on the motors and gears, are all benefits of a well balanced telescope. Balancing a telescope is a must for long exposure astrophotography.
